The St Ives Fishing Heritage has been created to raise awareness of Cornwall’s fishing history and provides support for communities interested in creating or developing a record of the Cornish fishing industry.
Information runs into thousands of documents and files of research as well as a whole host of photographs illustrating the development of the St. Ives fishing industry through the years. All of this is backed up with a collection of films and documentaries about the various aspects of the St. Ives fishing industry.
Our extensive archives and learning resources are available to all and are based on the fishing industry archive held by the St Ives Archive and the historic Grade II* fishermens’ cellars at Porthmeor Studios.
The resources available are wide-ranging but include the history of local beaches, the former Custom House, the RNLI and the two major lifeboat disasters, boat building, the Hain Steamship Company, the effects of the Torrey Canyon, HMS Wave as well as other famous shipwrecks such as the Alba.
This website provides a gateway to the enormous amount of material available at the St Ives Archive.
